"Transformation", Group Exhibition by Bongumusa Shezi, Andy Dlamini, Minenhle Buthelezi, Sithembiso Dube 12-17th November 2016

Bongumusa Shezi
“…it would have been curtains for me II”
     2016
     tissue paper
     97.5 x 193 cm
     R3 500
My work explores my interest in the human condition.
     I am inspired by a life-threatening event that I
experienced which made me aware of ephemerality
and fragility of life.  I create my artwork through the
     medium of printmaking and non-traditional
drawing. These mediums emphasize fragility, as they
are delicate.Tissue paper has become a primary
medium in the piece entitled …it would have
     been curtains for me II.

The body of this work explores the idea of protest
as a phenomenon, it focus on the transformation of
the role of the tyre as an object in the context of
South Africa. From just a car tyre to the necklacing
act to a burning rubber and an iconic symbol of
     protest.

“To Express How I am”
2016
acrylic on canvas
48.5 x 71 cm

Expressing negative emotions: showing feelings in
an emotional responds through art form. I am
exploring the Expressive of pain in a physical visual form, pain, emotions in the work of female artist and compare with my own negative feelings. I am looking at an artist by the name of Frida Kahlo. I chose Kahlo because she express her own reality of pain and suffering, every work she does.  She paints self-portraits with surrealism style to express the physical and emotional pain that she carries. In my work I
paint myself portrait to express feeling of my inner
self as a results the behaviour of my outer appearance is a reflection of how I am inside when I am being struggle in emotional pain and thoughts.

     “Untitled”
      2016
     mixed media
     R2 400
My artworks explores transformation in humans
using metamorphosis in nature as a metaphor for
transformation. Metamorphosis is one of the process
where change in character is represented.  Creating
this body of work I am confronted by thoughts, in
comparison with my past and current character
transforming in relation to my future. Diversity of
expressive shades and tones both monochromatic
and chromatic colour are dominant in my work as a
symbol of transformation. I created these images in
mixed media to emphasize the theme of transformation.
Exploring the theme, in two-dimensional studies I
recycled material such as teabags. This process best
represent transformation in oneself just like a teabag
     being placed under boiling water.
